Catherine Kelly – Soprano
Catherine Kelly (MM), soprano, is a native of North Carolina. Catherine’s professional work began abroad, where she appeared as a guest soloist in the Mittelsächisches Theater Chamber Concert Series, featuring engagements in various cities around eastern Germany. In the subsequent season, Catherine performed the role of Susanna in a 180-performance run of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with Sound of Austria in Vienna, Austria. During her time overseas, she was a founding member of the internationally-touring chamber trio Ensemble Poetico, which featured the unique blend of voice, viola, and piano. She has since moved back to her home country and state, where she has had the delight of performing the soprano solos in various oratorio masterworks, including Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, John Rutter’s Requiem, and Bach’s Christ lag in Todesbanden.
Catherine’s operatic credits in the United States include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Anne Frank in Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Serpina in La Serva Padrona, Giannetta in L’elisir d’amore, and Lucy in The Telephone. Memorable musical theatre roles include Catherine in Pippin, Louisa in The Fantasticks, Sandy in Grease, and Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof. She cherishes opportunities to perform classical sacred repertoire, including Couperin’s Trois Leçons de Tenebres and Mozart’s Exsultate, Jubilate.
Catherine is the founder of Sidewalk Opera, a non-profit association that aims to provide free, “pop-up” classical music concerts for surrounding communities. She is a company member of Sweet Tea Shakespeare, where she works as part of the music production team.
Catherine offers private lessons to voice and violin students. Her students have received acceptance into competitive university music programs, the North Carolina Honors Chorus, and summer intensive workshops.
